Why quoting short story extracts is good for authors - the theory. Fame and an author's good name is what sells their books and leads to publishing contracts? Few may disagree but how to achieve fame? The answer may be surprisingly simple. Just encourage others to talk about and quote extracts from your work on their web sites and your name and samples of your high quality work could rapidly spread across the Internet. Your reward is name recognition and more visitors to your own site from readers seeking further examples of your work. Web site owners who host samples of your writing are also winners. Their web sites are fresher and more exciting through access to a pool of varied and high quality content. Their ultimate target of repeat visitors and the Holy Grail of 'stickiness' is much more easily achieved. The better the writing the more it will be used and the more publicity the author will receive. The very best writing will achieve the highest publicity for it's author - truly a Darwinian survival of the fittest. Each short story, article or first chapter quote becomes your emissary - your very own PR assistant, 24 hours a day. It's a win win result for both quality authors and content seeking web site publishers. And the cost? Free! That's the theory. To me it's persuasive - and I reckon it must be worth a try! Rob |
